Top US commander: Burning Quran endangers troops

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - The top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan warned Tuesday an American church’s threat to burn copies of the Muslim holy book could endanger U.S. troops in the country and Americans worldwide.

Meanwhile, NATO reported the death of an American service member in an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

The comments from Gen. David Petraeus followed a protest Monday by hundreds of Afghans over the plans by Gainesville, Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center - a small, evangelical Christian church that espouses anti-Islam philosophy - to burn copies of the Quran on church grounds to mark the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States that provoked the Afghan war.

“Images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan - and around the world - to inflame public opinion and incite violence,” Petraeus said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

So, tell us Gen. Petraeus, when the anti-war LEFT or the Islamic radicals burn the American flag, how does that make you feel in the politically correct world that you’re living in?

Every time one of our troops kills an insurgent, every time an airstrike sends one, or more Muslim warriors off to the land of wherever the hell it is they go, it places our troops in mortal danger. Maybe that’s why we’re trying to conduct a PC-war. Maybe it’s safer if we don’t incite violence, after all, WAR is such a non-violent activity.

Muslims consider the Quran to be the word of God and insist it be treated with the utmost respect, along with any printed material containing its verses or the name of Allah or the Prophet Muhammad. Any intentional damage or show of disrespect to the Quran is deeply offensive.

Maybe Petraeus doesn’t realize, perhaps he doesn’t remember, but Americans found it deeply offensive when the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were attacked. Americans were very highly offended by the attacks of 9-11 as a whole. Doesn’t that count in your PC, kiss Obama’s ass political world General?

In 2005, 15 people died and scores were wounded in riots in Afghanistan sparked by a story in Newsweek magazine alleging interrogators at the U.S. detention center in Guantanamo Bay placed copies of the Quran in washrooms and flushed one down the toilet to get inmates to talk. Newsweek later retracted the story.

Newsweek retracted the story after pressure from the White House. George W. Bush was as bad as Obama about not wanting to offend the enemies of the USA. ‘It’s OK to make war on ‘em, and kill ‘em and all, but we can’t be offending ‘em now guys.’

At Monday’s protest, several hundred Afghans rallied outside a Kabul mosque, burning American flags and an effigy of Dove World’s pastor and chanting “death to America.” Members of the crowd briefly pelted a passing U.S. military convoy with stones, but were ordered to stop by rally organizers.

Two days earlier, thousands of Indonesian Muslims rallied outside the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta and in five other cities to protest the church’s plans.

Given the current attitude of the U.S. government and their ‘non-offensive’ way of doing things, it’s quite likely that the troops that were pelted with rocks wanted to teach the protesters a lesson; NEVER take a rock to a gun fight, but were leery of doing so, fearful that they would be brought up on charges of using excessive force in a time of war.

“I am very concerned by the potential repercussions of the possible (Quran) burning. Even the rumor that it might take place has sparked demonstrations such as the one that took place in Kabul yesterday,” Petraeus said in his message. “Were the actual burning to take place, the safety of our soldiers and civilians would be put in jeopardy and accomplishment of the mission would be made more difficult.”

Once upon a time I thought Gen. David Petraeus was a man of honor, a man of integrity and a WARRIOR. Now, he’s become a PC mouthpiece for the Muslim in Chief and his band of ne’er do wells.

I have used this quote before and have pissed off a few folks by doing so. I guess it’s time to piss ‘em off again.

I detest Islam and every goat loving turd that calls it a religion, and not being the most politically correct blogger from Texas, screw ‘em, kill ‘em ALL and let Allah sort ‘em out!

And now, I have to extend my anger to every politically correct asshat that is too much of a coward to go after the enemies of this nation in proper fashion.

WAR is a nasty business, it is NOT an endeavor for the faint of heart. It is not a task that the erudite would comprehend.

War is not a task that can be won by making nice with your enemy.

War is an event in which you totally overwhelm your enemy and kill as many of them as is necessary in order to force them into submission and affect a long and sincere cessation of hostilities.

WAR is not about being the least offensive, WAR is won by being the MOST offensive.

At least that’s the way WAR used to be conducted.

Islam is the sworn enemy of everything and everyone that is NOT Islamic. They have sworn to convert us or kill us. Given the happenings we see in so many Muslim nations, even if you ARE a Muslim, they’ll kill you anyway.

Why does the Obama administration, and so many of our so-called leaders, military and elected, just roll over and ignore that fact?

My answer to the post before this is also befitting here.
WE really need a fire and brimstone warrior to achieve our goals.
    Not some “political pussy”!

    QUOTE:
    “Gen Wesley Clark, remember him,,,,Bosnia war, 1995 – 96?
Well, this current Gen Betrayus is just like him.

Both have liberal political aspirations and hope.

WE NEED a Gen Tommy Franks or a Gen Schwarzkopf type now. Maybe after the November elections, and 2012 presidential election we will get one with that”.

The more those pigs make of this, the more I want to buy a copy of that ‘holy’ book, and send to Florida, to be added to the bonfire! Christians believe the Bible is a Holy Book. Do we riot and kill when the Saudis shred the it? Do we take to the streets, destroying? I can guaran-damn-tee, more Bibles have been destroyed by the scum of the earth than any quran! I, for one, am getting more than just a little fed up! They can take their PC BS and shove it far up their camel’s ass!

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Florida church is rebuffing warnings by the U.S. military’s top official in Afghanistan to cancel a scheduled Sept. 11 burning of the Muslim holy book.

Pastor Terry Jones told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he agrees his plan to burn the Quran could provoke violent opposition.

However, Jones says America should quit apologizing for its actions and bowing to kings.

Jones is the head of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville.

Gen. David Petraeus says the plan to burn the Quran there could endanger U.S. troops and the safety of Americans worldwide. He says images of the Quran burning would be used by Islamic extremists to inflame and incite violence.

It seems the good General Petraeus has become pussified since working for the Obama regime. He needs to wake up and realize we are at war with all of Islam and do his job by killing more muslims so this country stays safe. Islamic extremists are targets that need to be taken out.

Fred . . . You are one of the few that understand we are at WAR, and WAR is not pretty. It’s a last reaction. It’s when you’ve had enough from an aggressor, it’s the result of Twin Towers and 3,000 innocent people in the dust. The grungy terrorist dogs say the Qu’ran inspired them, praise be to Allah. They say they want to kill even more infidels like it says in the damn book.

Forget Obama, Petraeus, Wimpy Clark and Neville Chamberlain. Anything that can be done to insult and kill the terrorist Muslim Terrorist radicals is okay by me. If the “non-political” and members of Islam get upset . . .too bad Charlie.

You’ve done little or nothing to renounce the miserable, anti-humanity evil residing in the Qu’ran. Erase it or shut up. Okay. We’ll do it for you. Burn baby burn the Qu’ran. Build a strip joint next to Mosques in the city and a pig farm next to the Mosques in the farm country.

Let’s stop pussy-footing around. Radical Muslim Terrorists are the enemy. We are at WAR with them. Kill’em all.

I guess the islamapukes will really really try and kill our soldiers after the Koran is set fire…Because before then they were just playing around.

Anyone that has ever been in a fist fight knows (Well if they were any good at it) that the best way to win a fight is to get your opponent to lose his cool. Let anger take over and exploit it. IF this makes them so mad that they do something stupid it’s perfect.

The Koran is the root of all the worlds ills for the last 30 years…And our Chamberlain type dealings are only getting more folks killed. IF Reagan would have decimated Lebanon after the barrack bombings, perhaps the islamapukes would not be so embolden to have continued the attacks…Couldn’t have been much worse now could it?

Who really gives a rats ass whether the muslim goat bangers
get pissed off, I don’t, and I can tell them that direct. Like Kate said, they can shove their holy shit book right up a camels ass or they can wipe THEIR ass with it I really don’t care. If they want to get extreme, I can show’em REAL EXTREME. THEY AIN”T NEVER SEEN EXTREME like MY extreme.
I’m a person that does not believe in the political correctness
    BS.

The news media, Petraeus, and Glen Beck on the radio today are all upset over this pastor and his church burning the Koran. I wonder if they got this upset when Muslims burned Christians, Jews, Buddhists, and Hindus? I wonder if they get upset when Muslims burn American Flags in the streets of America?

  13. comment number 13 by: TexasFred

And people wonder WHY I said Glenn Beck is a goddamned fraud…

  14. comment number 14 by: extex_cop

Like the assholes need anything else to piss them off and make them try to kill our troops. They don’t need a reason other than we are not like them. Robert was right…get them so angry that they don’t think about what they are doing. Let them scream and charge a line of our well armed troops.
I would like to shoot a big hole in one ( or two….million ) of thier holy Koran(s)…but they need to be holding it to their head and praying. I will quickly show them how to get to their promise land.

    Exactly!

Since when does a military general tell American civilians to shut up?

As I see this matter, Petraeus’s dhimmitude will further embolden the enemy — particularly the stealth jihadists we have within our own borders.

The question was asked over at another blog: If Islam is a religion of peace and Muslims are a peaceful people, why would one American life be in danger?

  17. comment number 17 by: Bob Mack

I don’t understand why a U.S. general thinks burning books endangers more troops than, say, IEDs, mortars, snipers, or your random murderous Islamic kidnappers. Personally, I wouldn’t waste a match on the damn things, but to each his own. It’s interesting, though, that wherever Muslims settle, religious strife seems to follow.
