GDP: Growing Democrats’ Programs

Bear with me as I make a strong and valid point concerning the less than stellar performance of the United States Congress. This is a lengthy post but one I believe needs to be seen.

Let me start by saying; I once had a very high level of respect for my Congressman, Sam Johnson, I had… I pretty much lost that respect after the Mexican president Felipe Calderon was given free rein on the floor of the U.S. Congress a while back.

This is the message I sent to Mr. Sam Johnson, concerning the Mexican president being allowed to tear America apart from the floor of Congress while our Congress Critters sat there and applauded, or did NOTHING to stop this never before heard of debacle:

White House, Democrats Applaud Mexican President

Congressman Johnson:

I wrote a VERY heated story on my blog, http://texasfred.net/archives/6743

I am not at all kind to ANY member of Congress at this time, and Sir, I include you in this.

I have but one question for you Congressman:

WHY IN THE HELL DIDN’T ALL OF THE REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS STAND UP, FLIP THAT MEXICAN SON OF A BITCH OFF AND WALK THE HELL OUT OF CONGRESS?

That’s the question asked on my blog, and some of my readers are getting very graphic in opining as to all the reasons why!

Sincerely,
TexasFred

And this was the *canned* response I got from Mr. Johnson:

Tea Partiers’ April 15 events to focus on local politics

Tea Partiers’ April 15 events to focus on local politics

WASHINGTON – With the battle against health care legislation behind them, Tea Party activists are looking ahead to the next stage for the loosely organized and generally anti-government movement.

Texas leaders of Tea Party groups hint that their true success will hinge less on “headline-grabbing” rallies and more on direct involvement in politics, such as developing citizen candidates, holding community forums and focusing on local elections.

“It is obvious that standing around with a sign in your hand is not enough,” said Felicia Cravens, founder of the Houston Tea Party Society.

One of the first opportunities to send a new message comes this week: Tax Day. The group’s April 15 activities, which tie back into many Tea Party groups’ core beliefs about fiscal responsibility, will draw hundreds of thousands of participants in person and online.

Direct involvement in politics? Maybe in some TEA Party organizations, but here in MY neighborhood, I just saw a flash of fur. That would be the cat herd scattering off into the land of we can’t DO that again.

Below is a part of an email message I sent to the TEA Party group I belong to:

It seems to me that *grass roots* politics should start at the LOCAL level. We need to keep our eye on the State and National scene, but we also need to set some reasonable, and attainable goals locally. We need to get busy, not just sit around talking about things that have little chance of passing muster in today’s political climate.

We are a grass roots type organization. Many TEA Party groups are nothing more than a loose affiliation of folks that know something is wrong, they want to do something about it, but they have no idea where to start or what to do, and by God, they’re going to do it their way!

The media has pointed this out repeatedly. The media gets castigated as a left leaning tool of the Obama administration when they do, but in so many of these circumstances, the media actually has it right.

The TEA Party can become a powerful force on the American political scene, but it won’t happen until there is some SOLID, centralized and Conservative leadership.

Many in the TEA Party look upon Sarah Palin as the Belle of the Ball, conservatism personified, yet SHE continues to support and campaign for the biggest RINO in the GOP, John McCain! She is not exhibiting conservative *chops* in that support, she is toeing the GOP party line!

Nearly 30 North Texas Tea Party groups will gather at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie on Thursday for the Lone Star Tea Party. Similar celebrations will be held across Texas – including an Austin event where former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will participate in a forum about the lessons learned from the “Contract With America,” the movement that propelled Republicans to election success in 1994.

Newt Gingrich is going to be the Toast of the Town for the Austin TEA Party? And they call that a conservative move? Once upon a time, Newt was looked upon as a REAL Conservative, as a guy that had it all together, he gave us *The Contract with America*! That was then, this is now, and as they say in baseball, “Yeah, well what have you done for me lately?”

He was forced out of the House because of ethics violations, but he has shown what some consider to be redeeming qualities since that time. The fact of the matter is, some folks just don’t trust him. I will say this for Gingrich, his words concerning Wall Street bailouts were correct, some of his opinions on Illegal Immigration, Climate change and education give me pause.

All things considered, Gingrich will be a perfect fit for the Austin Texas TEA Party, they do, after all, consider John Cornyn to be a STRONG Conservative voice in Washington. He was their star speaker at last 4th of July festivities.

Palin’s way of talkin’ dissected, you betcha

Palin’s way of talkin’ dissected, you betcha

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - When Sarah Palin burst onto the national political stage there was a lot of talk about her distinctive way of talkin’, you betcha.

Heck, she moved to Alaska when she was too young to speak and grew up in the small town of Wasilla, but doggone it, why did she talk like someone from the movie “Fargo”?

Three University of Wisconsin-Madison linguists tackled the conundrum in a research article to be published in the Journal of English Linguistics next month. The answer lies in something that happened in the 1930s.

During the presidential campaign, almost every aspect of Palin’s life, including how she talked, was dissected by everyone from curious voters to political pundits. Many noted that for someone who grew up in Alaska, she talked a lot like she had been raised in Michigan, Wisconsin or Minnesota.

Palin’s way of talkin’ dissected, you betcha

Well… I guess Sarah Palin is a Great Pretender. Playing to the masses. Putting on the dog, as they say. And it all came out looking like a seriously bad version of Northwoods Barbie.

What has happened to the idea of *straight talk*? Once upon a time a candidate stood up and spoke to America and said what was on his mind. You knew if a candidate shared your values by the words, and subsequently, the actions OF that person.

Today, it’s Dancing with the Stars, The Biggest Loser, Survivor, and The Amazing Race. These are the programs that capture the attention of American voters. Reality television!

Sarah Palin’s life reads a lot like a reality program too, Jon and Kate comes to mind. Dysfunctional, didn’t finish out the contract, accusations of improprieties, lots of similarities.

Personally, I want my politics to be a reality program, but I want it to be an accurate representation of LIFE, not some shrill voiced QUITTER that doesn’t represent my family values or work ethic.

I hate a quitter! Sarah Palin will forever be known as a QUITTER. You just don’t walk out on the job of Governor of Alaska because the *pressures* of the job were too much for you to take and because it was playing havoc on your family.

If Palin, or ANY of her supporters think for one minute that the pressures she would face as President or Vice President are less than those she faced as a state Governor, you are sadly mistaken! If she quit over those lesser pressures, what do you think she’ll do if it’s a GLOBAL crisis? What happens when she has to face the life or death decisions that ALL Presidents face?

Wake up folks, Palin is playing a part, that’s it, she is yesterdays news and even then she didn’t carry that much credibility. Then she became a QUITTER. Is that what you want in the White House? Do you want someone that’s better suited to reality TV or someone that can LEAD this nation?
