Republicans both assail, applaud Nobel award

WASHINGTON — To Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize is an opportunity to exploit conservative outrage and raise funds. To John McCain, the GOP’s 2008 presidential nominee, it’s cause for national pride.

“Americans are always pleased when their president is recognized by something on this order,” the Arizona senator said Sunday on CNN. William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard, is not among them. On Fox News Sunday, he said Obama should have turned down a prize from “an anti-American committee.”

The sharply different GOP responses to Friday’s surprise announcement reflects deeper divisions within a party that must decide whether to cooperate with Obama as he faces tough decisions about Afghanistan and health care — or press its political advantage. Recent public opinion polls by Gallup show a majority approve of Obama’s handling of foreign affairs but rate him lower on the economy and health care.

On one side, conservative hard-liners: Talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s website featured the headline “Our president is a laughingstock” and portrayed Obama as the darling of “European leftist elites.”

John McCain? The addled old RINO that the GOP wanted to run this nation? McCain says, “Americans are always pleased when their president is recognized by something on this order,”.

Do all of the McCain supporters now see WHY some of us just couldn’t hold our noses? When you elect the lesser of the evils, all you get is more evil. And in the case of John McCain, you get pure ignorance. I didn’t vote for Obama, I voted for Bob Barr, the Libertarian running the last time out, that’s how bad I felt concerning BOTH McCain and Obama.

And Michael Steele? That guy has done more to divide the GOP than he has to unite it. It is my personal opinion that Steele is NOT the head of the RNC because of any exceptional qualification or outstanding achievement, I am fully convinced that Steele is the GOP’s answer to Barack Hussein Obama. He’s there because of his COLOR and the GOP’s HUGE desire to appear more in the main stream, and to dispel those accusations of the GOP being the party of old, rich white men.

On one side, conservative hard-liners: Talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s website featured the headline “Our president is a laughingstock” and portrayed Obama as the darling of “European leftist elites.”

Steele echoed that notion in a letter sent within hours of the Nobel announcement that mockingly announced Obama won for “awesomeness.”

I am NOT a big Limbaugh fan. He’s good at what he does, make no mistake about that fact, but I am just not into his style of delivery. And I have to admit, he’s not afraid to jump all over Obama and Company, and he’s not afraid to be the 1st one to the fight. I admire that quality in Rush Limbaugh!

Steele is speaking the words, he’s doing the dance,, but he’s late to the fight. Maybe he had to do the Fred Thompson thing, test the waters to see how warm they are… :?

Joining McCain at the other end of the GOP spectrum: former secretary of State Henry Kissinger. A 1973 Nobel Peace Prize winner for his efforts to end the Vietnam War, Kissinger offered “warm congratulations” for the award, “which, beyond the tribute to your person, honors America and the cause of peace.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also refused to criticize Obama. “If he can successfully turn around Afghanistan, deter Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, I will build a bookcase for him to put it in,” Graham said of the president’s Nobel Prize on NBC’s Meet the Press.

RNC chairman attacks Obama on health care

RNC chairman attacks Obama on health care

WASHINGTON - The chairman of the Republican Party on Monday called President Barack Obama’s plan to overhaul health care “socialism,” accusing the president of conducting a risky experiment that will hurt the economy and force millions to drop their current coverage.

Michael Steele, in remarks at the National Press Club, also said the president, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and key congressional committee chairmen are part of a “cabal” that wants to implement government-run health care.

“Obama-Pelosi want to start building a colossal, closed health care system where Washington decides. Republicans want and support an open health care system where patients and doctors make the decisions,” Steele said.

Ding Ding Ding!!! WE HAVE A WINNER!! Steele gets it. It took a while. But after several months as the head of the RNC, Michael Steele finally gets it.

And the RNC wonders WHY Conservatives like me aren’t flocking back to the Big Tent.

Bloggers have been screaming at the top of their lungs, Obama and Company are trying to turn the United States into a socialist haven. People like Mark Levin and Glenn Beck have been ranting for months about Obama and Company. Just out of curiosity, WHERE has Michael Steele been during all of this?

Steele is correct in his words, he’s just way late to the party.

“Many Democrats outside of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid-Waxman cabal know that voters won’t stand for these kinds of foolish prescriptions for our health care. We do too. That’s why Republicans will stop at nothing to remind voters about the risky experimentation going on in Washington,” the party chairman said. Harry Reid, D-Nev., is Senate majority leader; Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., is chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Well Captain Obvious, just exactly what are Republicans going to do? Wait for YOU to lead the way? Gosh, I hope not. Your so-called leadership is suspect at best. Mr. Steele is another RINO that has Peter Principled himself.

The Peter Principle; “In a Hierarchy Every Employee Tends to Rise to His Level of Incompetence.”

In his speech, Steele broadened his attack beyond health care to question Obama’s truthfulness.

The president “tells us he doesn’t want to spend more than we have, he doesn’t want the deficit to go up, he doesn’t want to live off borrowed money. But he also told us he didn’t want to run an auto company. President Obama justifies this spending by saying the devil made him do it. He doesn’t want to spend trillions we can’t afford, but he says he just can’t help it,” Steele said in the prepared excerpts.

Again I say, Michael Steele has the words. WHY has it taken him this long to get vocal?

Michael Steele elected RNC chairman

Michael Steele elected RNC chairman

WASHINGTON - Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele beat out South Carolina GOP chief Katon Dawson in the sixth round of voting at Fridays Republican National Committee meeting Friday, becoming the first African-American chairman of the party.

The two Republicans fought for the national party chairmanship Friday after Mike Duncan, former President George W. Bush’s hand-picked national GOP chief, abandoned his re-election bid in the fact of dwindling support.

Duncan’s departure ensured a fresh face at the beleaguered GOP’s helm as Republicans seek to rebound from back-to-back defeats in national elections that gave Democrats control of Congress and the White House.

After five rounds of balloting, former Maryland Steele and Dawson were locked in a close race, though neither had reached the 85-vote majority needed to assume the party’s top spot. Steele was six votes shy with 79, while Dawson had 69.

Congratulations to Michael Steele, I wish him, and the RNC much luck!

That said, it appears that a lot of bloggers are almost ‘giddy’ with joy at the election of Steele to the position of Chairman. I am sure Steele is a great choice, I hope he is because right about NOW would be a really GREAT time for Steele to make EVERY effort to move the RNC back to some TRUE Republican roots, and as far away from being nothing more than *Dem Lite* as is possible. No more RINOs! EVER!! RINOs have destroyed the Republican party.

If the RNC doesn’t go back to being REPUBLICAN, if the RNC doesn’t stop trying to be as much like the Dems as they can, I will STILL be an Independent, and the Republican party will continue to be the party of weak-assed old losers, John McCain, and will continue to lose Congressional and Senatorial seats to the Dems.

Am I being a hard-ass?? You bet I am, it’s time to fight or forget it, and I am NOT going to support ANY candidate that’s not Conservative 1st, not until such time that the RNC becomes the party of true Conservatism, and nothing BUT Conservatism!

One story I saw leads off with Michael Steele becomes first black RNC chairman. Personally, I don’t care if he’s green with purple polka-dots. It’s what kind of JOB he can do to bring the Republican party back into line with CONSERVATISM, that is the goal that must be kept in sight!

Without the Conservatives of this nation the Republican party can forget ANY election, and I personally know many Republicans that are now far more inclined towards pure Conservatism than they are the RNC party policy. Steele had best keep this in mind, otherwise, being a Republican means about as much as it did under the last RNC chairman.

Return INTEGRITY to the RNC Mr. Steele, if you can do that, then there is a great possibility the Republicans can take this nation by storm in 2010!
