Mexico AG: 1,000 killed in drug violence so far in ‘09

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico’s federal attorney general said Thursday that more than 1,000 people have been killed in the first eight weeks of this year, but he believes the drug violence is reaching its peak.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Attorney General Eduardo Medina Mora also said that 6,290 people were killed last year in drug violence — the most specific accounting yet of killings that doubled the 2007 toll.
Medina Mora said the world’s most powerful drug cartels are “melting down” as they engage in turf wars and fight off a nationwide government crackdown.
The government doesn’t expect to stop drug trafficking, but hopes to make it so difficult that smugglers no longer use Mexico as their conduit to the United States, he said: “We want to raise the opportunity cost of our country as a route of choice.”
He applauded cross-border efforts to arrest more than 700 Sinaloa cartel members in the United States, but called for more U.S. prosecutions of people who sell weapons illegally to the cartels.

What in the hell is WRONG with Attorneys General? Is sheer lunacy a requirement for that office? Read that last paragraph, it is implicated that Americans are supplying the cartels with guns and that it total bullshit! I just covered that in my previous post. All of the weapons are NOT coming from America, especially the dreaded AK-47. If there IS a connection I sincerely hope the BATF and DEA can make the connection and bust the gunrunners all to hell and back, just to prove it is NOT the legal and responsible gun owners of America doing this evil!
And from Barb at FaultlineUSA comes this:
Texas Gov. Perry Asks for Troops
The escalating border violence has prompted Texas Governor Rick Perry to ask for troops to guard the border. This week Juárez Mayor Jose Reyes Ferriz moved his family to El Paso for safety.
Yesterday the El Paso Times reported that Texas Governor Rick Perry is asking for 1,000 troops to guard the Texas-Mexico border. Perry is also asking the Texas state legislature for $135 million for border security.
It’s coming my friends, WAR, it IS coming, right here on our soil, a Narco war, a war against gangsters like the Sinaloa Cartel and MS-13, a WAR that will make old gangland Chicago look like a kids party, and all the while our own government is doing everything they can do to disarm the HONEST and LEGAL gun owners of this nation!
I can’t, and won’t even attempt to speak for others, but I am starting to think that this peaceful Second Amendment March on D.C. next year is going to be an effort in futility. I am more and more convinced every day, we will be fully engaged in active combat long before that event ever comes to fruition!
