Woman, 90, shoots self inside foreclosed home

(CNN) — A 90-year-old Akron, Ohio, woman who shot herself as sheriff’s deputies tried to evict her from her foreclosed home became a symbol of the nation’s home mortgage crisis Friday.

Addie Polk is being treated at Akron General Medical Center after shooting herself at least twice in the upper body Wednesday afternoon, her city councilman said.

U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, mentioned Polk on the House floor Friday during debate over the latest economic rescue proposal.

“This bill does nothing for the Addie Polks of the world,” Kucinich said after telling her story. “This bill fails to address the fact that millions of homeowners are facing foreclosure, are facing the loss of their home. This bill will take care of Wall Street, and the market may go up for a few days, but democracy is going downhill.”

I never heard one word from U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich that I could totally agree with until now, but Mr. Kucinich just blasted this one out of the park! And as a further surprise, Kucinich voted NO on the bailout bill, BOTH times!

In 2004, Polk took out a 30-year, 6.375 percent mortgage for $45,620 with a Countrywide Home Loan office in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The same day, she also took out an $11,380 line of credit.

And it’s people like Countrywide that this ridiculous bailout bill is going to save, the most STUPID business people this nation could ever produce.

Countrywide extended a 30 year loan to a woman that was 86 years old at the time the loan and credit line were issued. Did Countrywide believe that Miss Polk was going to live to the age of 116 and be able to pay this loan, off or were they banking, no pun intended, on the fact that Miss Polk was 86 and that they, Countrywide, were going to win no matter HOW this debacle turned out?

It is my personal belief that this is one of those bad situations that has caused our nation to suffer the financial woes we are seeing, and until such time that we, as a nation, can demand, and get, FULL financial responsibility from our banking and mortgage institutions, as well as our Senate, Congress and White House, we will NEVER emerge from this crisis, we will only sink further into the pit of SOCIALISM!

Congress OKs historic bailout bill

WASHINGTON (AP) - With the economy on the brink and elections looming, Congress approved an unprecedented $700 billion government bailout of the battered financial industry on Friday and sent it to President Bush for his certain signature.

The final vote, 263-171 in the House, capped two weeks of tumult in Congress and on Wall Street, punctuated by daily warnings that the country confronted the gravest economic crisis since the Great Depression if lawmakers failed to act.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the United States of America has just become a SOCIALIST nation. By passing the nearly $1 TRILLION bailout our Senate and Congress has destroyed over 200 years of free enterprise and capitalism.

I am totally ashamed of my 2 U.S. Senators, I expected much more from these Republicans that also claim to be Conservatives. The Republican Party is no more, it has died a nasty death, there is only Democratic Socialism and a feint heartbeat of Conservatism heard in this nation after today.

Below you will find pictures of my Senators, the faces of SOCIALISM. I hope bloggers from all over this nation will take this lead and make similar posts if your Senators or Congressmen voted FOR this debacle. Vote them out, FIRE THEM, we can’t allow socialists to run this nation, socialism has no place in a free market society, and if we fail as free market capitalists, so be it, failure is better than becoming a socialist nation.

And thank God, my Congressman, Mr. Sam Johnson voted against this terrible program, Mr. Sam, YOU are still the MAN!

House leaders win key converts on bailout bill

House leaders win key converts on bailout bill

WASHINGTON (AP) - Desperate to avoid another market-crushing defeat, House leaders won key converts Thursday to the $700 billion financial industry bailout on the eve of a make-or-break second vote.

President Bush and congressional leaders lobbied furiously for the dozen or so supporters they’d need to reverse Monday’s stunning setback and approve a massive rescue plan designed to stave off national economic disaster.

Anything but reassured, investors sent the Dow Jones industrials plunging another 348 points, suggesting Wall Street is expecting tougher economic times even if the measure is rushed into law. The Federal Reserve reported record emergency lending to banks and investment firms, fresh evidence of the credit troubles squeezing the country.

“A lot of people are watching,” Bush pointed out - as if lawmakers needed reminding - and he argued from the White House that the huge rescue measure was the best chance to calm unnerved financial markets and ease the credit crunch. He was calling dozens of lawmakers, a spokesman said.

We, The People are being ignored. 75% of the U.S. Senate has ignored the will of the people, we can only hope that the Members of Congress are more attuned to We, The People than our esteemed Senators are.

My Congressman is Mr. Sam Johnson. I really like Sam, he is a great guy over all, and he is a good man.

Sam Johnson returned home to Texas after serving in the U.S. Air Force for 29-years as a highly decorated fighter pilot. He flew combat missions in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was a Prisoner of War in Hanoi for nearly seven years.

After his distinguished military career, Johnson started a home-building business from scratch and served in the Texas legislature. In 1991, he embarked on a new mission of service to his country - representing the people of Texas’ Third District in the United States Congress.

A vocal advocate of less government and lower taxes, Johnson sits on the prestigious Ways and Means Committee. Johnson serves as the Ranking Member on the Social Security Subcommittee and is one of the few Members of Congress to have his own plan to strengthen Social Security with personal accounts.

One of a handful of combat veterans in Congress, Johnson has led the charge to stand up for the troops on the ground – regardless of the political posturing in Washington, DC.

I hope Mr. Sam is paying attention, because as much as I like him, and as much as I admire him, if he votes FOR this now close to $850B bailout BS, I will works as hard as I possibly can to make sure that this is his last term, nice guy or not, Vietnam and Korean war hero be damned, this is about saving America, not the corporate big wheels that are trying to destroy her!

Folks, our elected officials must be fully aware, they work for US, they work for you and me, as in We, The People. It is NOT the other way around, and any Senator or Representative that pawns this BS off on us needs to be fully aware of this fact, they just signed their own termination slip!
