Texas gubernatorial debate to open to 4 hopefuls

Texas gubernatorial debate to open to 4 hopefuls

Unlikely to get a one-on-one exchange between Republican Gov. Rick Perry and Democratic challenger Bill White, the state’s largest newspapers today will invite two minor-party candidates to a planned debate next month.

Last month, the newspapers and Austin television station KLRU invited Perry and White to an Oct. 19 debate at KLRU’s Austin studios. White quickly said he would attend, but Perry has not accepted the invitation and has said he won’t debate White unless the challenger releases some of his tax returns from the 1990s.

The media organizations at first said they would give the stage entirely to one candidate if his opponent refused to participate. But they soon concluded that doing so would allow candidates from the Libertarian and Green parties to demand an equal amount of time — one hour — on television stations that broadcast the one-candidate interview, thus decreasing the chances that anyone would broadcast it.

In an effort to produce some form of a debate, the media organizations, including the American-Statesman, today will issue renewed invitations to Perry and White and will invite Libertarian Kathie Glass and Green Party candidate Deb Shafto. Glass and Shafto will be allowed to participate regardless of whether Perry and White accept.

Deb WHO?? Seriously.

Kathie Glass may not be a household name here in Texas, but she should be.

Yesterday, Sept. 27, 2010, The TexasFred Blog made it’s endorsement for Texas gubernatorial candidate Kathie Glass. That endorsement was not made because Glass is a Libertarian. It was not made because I am a Libertarian, because I am NOT. I endorsed Kathie Glass because she is simply the very best candidate in this race. Bar NONE! The TexasFred Blog endorses Kathie Glass.

I have liked everything I have heard Kathie Glass say, everything I have read about her and last Saturday I had the opportunity to meet her in person, and I am even MORE impressed. She stole the show at the Rowlett TEA Party Candidates Forum.

Former Houston Mayor Bill White was invited to that same event and he did attended.

Mr. White spoke to the TEA Party and all the citizens in attendance, he worked the crowd, he gave a news interview in the lobby of the facility. He represented himself well and his capable staff represented White and themselves in a very professional manner.

Then Mr. White took to the stage where he gave what was described by several candidates as his ‘Uh-Oh, I’m in a crowd of Conservatives’ speech. White sounded like a hard core GOP member in everything he said. I was surprised. I had expected White to stick to a Democratic message but he went full-tilt conservative. He sounded like every RINO in the GOP.

Rick ‘Gov. Goodhair’ Perry was invited too. Perry didn’t attend over his difference of opinion with Bill White regarding what White needed to release regarding his financial reports.

Rick ‘Gov. Goodhair’ Perry is an egotistical ASS and a RINO of the 1st order.

I am certain that Green Party candidate Deb Shafto would have been invited to the Rowlett event if anyone in Rowlett had ever heard of her.

“The better option we still believe would have been Perry-White going head-to-head,” American-Statesman Editor Fred Zipp said. “But this is the next-best thing and, we think, still an important public service.”

The Rowlett event was an important public service too. Perry didn’t attend and I seriously doubt that he will attend the one the American-Statesman is sponsoring.

As I said, Rick Perry is an egotistical ASS.

Rick Perry has been Governor of Texas for 9 years now. He wants another 4 years of being Governor. So, I want to make two statements, each followed by a question for Texas voters;

1. Texas is suffering, at this moment, approximately a $21Billion shortfall in the upcoming budget;

1(a). Don’t you think we’ve had enough of Rick Perry and his brand of Fiscal Responsibility?

2. Rick Perry has been Governor of Texas for 9 years.

2(a). Are our borders secure? Does Texas have a new law on the books similar to AZ HB 1070 that would give officers a tool with which to fight ILLEGALS?

Rick Perry doesn’t care about border security, his actions, or lack thereof, speaks volumes.

Bill White won’t do any better. Let’s be honest, deserved or not, White bears the blame for the City of Houston being looked upon as a sanctuary city.

Rick Perry, Bill White clash in separate interviews

Rick Perry, Bill White clash in separate interviews

Texas voters may not have a face-to-face governor’s debate between Rick Perry and Bill White this fall. But they got the next best thing Thursday.

In consecutive but separate TV interviews in Dallas, the two rivals scuffled over how best to tackle Texas’ budget hole, immigration, insurance regulation and other hot topics.

They appeared two hours apart on Inside Texas Politics on WFAA-TV (Channel 8), giving the best glimpse yet of potential conflicts as the campaign enters its crucial stretch – especially over ways to close a state budget shortfall that could be as large as $21 billion.

Texas voters may not have a face-to-face governor’s debate between Rick Perry and Bill White this fall but it’s not because people in Texas didn’t try to bring the 2 together.

All of my readers know about The Rowlett TEA Party Candidates Forum that is coming up on Saturday afternoon, if not, click the link and get informed, attend, be a part of the elections process and get involved.

We tried to get Rick Perry to attend. We invited him, on several occasions. Perry’s staff refused to accept our invitation for this meet and greet because Rick Perry is an ASS!

Fred,

Bill White refuses to release the documents that contain this financial information. Bill White refuses to release his taxes from 1993-1998, years he held public service positions that required him by law to complete annual personal financial disclosures. While Bill White was Deputy Secretary of Energy (1993-95) and Chairman of the Texas Democratic Party (1995-98), he was required by law to complete annual personal financial disclosures which have not all been made public to the people of Texas.

As a result we will not be participating.

We even offered the Perry campaign the option of having Perry and Bill White appear at different times, much like the event in the Dallas Morning News story, but that just wasn’t good enough for Gov. *Goodhair*.

You know what Perry, and his buddy Dwayne Horner have done with their hard headed and childish refusals? They have guaranteed that there are at least TWO Texans that will NOT be voting for Rick Perry and his ego.

White, a Democrat and former Houston mayor, for the first time ruled out an increase in the state’s sales tax. But he said he would be open to broadening the tax to include certain exempted items.

Perry, the Republican incumbent, said flatly that he would oppose any increase or broadening of the tax.

“No tax increases; you reduce spending,” he said. “We don’t have a revenue problem in this state.”

Perry actually said, “We don’t have a revenue problem in this state.”

I have to ask; Mr. Perry, are you on DRUGS or have you just gone STUPID?

We have a $21 BILLION shortfall predicted in the upcoming Texas budget, but we don’t have a revenue problem in this state? That $21B is a conservative estimate according to some financial wizards. The budget could be several BILLION more short of needed money in all fact and actuality.

First it was $11 billion. Then it was $18 billion. Now, it might be $21 billion. Does the amount of the estimated 2012-13 state budget shortfall matter? Especially when the numbers are all unofficial? And how does it play on the campaign trail? The Statesman’s Jason Embry and KUT’s Ian Crawford discuss the issue in this week’s podcast. SOURCE

But hey, what’s a few BILLIONS among friends? A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon we are talking some serious money! That seems to be the way Perry looks at it if he thinks we don’t have a revenue problem in this state. The above source is the Austin American-Statesman. Austin is libber heaven in Texas, figure out where they are going to fall into this…

Obama Refuses to Meet Gov. Perry to Discuss Border Security

Obama Refuses to Meet Gov. Perry to Discuss Border Security

President Barack Obama is refusing to meet Gov. Rick Perry (R.-Tx.) during his scheduled visit to Fort Bliss, Texas on Tuesday, as disclosed by the governor’s spokeswoman.

The Houston Chronicle reports that, “Perry spokewoman Katherine Cessinger says the Republican governor had asked to meet with the president on Tuesday to discuss border security. Cessinger said Monday that White House aides said the president would not be available for such a meeting.?

On Monday evening, the White House would not immediately respond to a request for comment.

During a presidential visit on August 9 in Austin, Texas, Gov. Perry was one of the first people to greet the commander-in-chief when he stepped from Air Force One. Yet, Bill White, the Democratic nominee for the 2010 Texas gubernatorial race, declined invitations to meet Obama that day in both Austin and Dallas.

At the Austin greeting, Gov. Perry delivered a letter to Obama’s adviser Valerie Jarret, explaining the ‘dire threat’ from drug violence along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Please note;

I want to make one thing VERY clear to everyone reading this post. I am speaking as TexasFred, PRIVATE CITIZEN, and not in my capacity as a TEA Party member.

The opinions I express on this blog do NOT necessarily reflect the opinion of The Rowlett TEA Party or ANY of it’s members! I am my own man, and am speaking as such on MY blog.

That said;

Talk about hypocrisy! Gov. Rick Perry gives new definition to the word.

Gov. Rick Perry refuses to even attend an event where Mayor Bill White is present because, according to Perry staffers;

SOURCE

That is utter hypocrisy on the part of Gov. Perry and his staff, and what I believe to be a blatant display of childish behavior.

Gov. Perry tries to see Barack Hussein Obama at ANY opportunity. Obama has a lot of very questionable documents that HE hasn’t released.

I am well aware of the fact that NO candidate is perfect, none of them are going to be all things to all people, but if there is a violation of campaign law in play here, why is it not being addressed on a broad scale? Why play childish games regarding your opponent?

Politics is just like WAR, if you’re not fully prepared to take it to the limits, and then some, you’re in the wrong business.

I don’t want anyone to think that this post is being made to endorse or to damn any candidate either. I am merely presenting the facts, and needed information, in hopes that Texas voters can, and will make an educated vote and not just go in and pull the lever for an (R), (D) or (L).

All candidates have their good points, their talking points, but lately, all I hear from the Perry camp is what a bad person Bill White is because he (White) hasn’t released some records, as required by law.

The Perry campaign IS making accusations saying that Bill White is breaking the law. The Perry campaign IS sending out emails stating such, but as yet, I have seen only the statements made by the Perry campaign.

I haven’t seen them post any citation regarding that violation.

Must be a pretty weak law if Bill White has risen this far in the Texas Governors campaign, and is, in the opinion of the Perry campaign, breaking that law.

Gov. Rick Perry: Play OUR way or we won’t play!

August 30th, 2010 . by TexasFred

Gov. Rick Perry: Play OUR way or we won’t play!

I have never been a huge fan of Texas Gov. Rick Perry. I have long believed that he is a talker and not a doer. I also believe Perry to be nothing more than a pandering RINO.

That said, in my capacity with the TEA Party I have been contacting as many Dallas County and Texas candidates as possible trying to get them to attend The Rowlett TEA Party Candidates Forum. A non-partisan event that is planned for Sept. 25th here in Rowlett.

I sent at least 2 invitations to the Rick Perry campaign, and to Mr. Dwayne Horner.

Horner is Regional Field Director - Greater Dallas - Texans for Rick Perry, and this morning Mr. Horner sent me an email;

Fred, we met at the Rowlett event one Saturday evening and I gave you a business card and asked to receive the information regarding this event – but to this date have yet to receive anything. I do not know whom you contacted with the campaign – but I never received an email with details about this event for us to deliver a “response.?

Well Dwayne, I contacted you, that is how I had your email address to include you on the email to ALL candidates and their campaigns.

Perhaps it was missed in the rush, no big deal, now we are on the same page and in touch.

Here is the URL to the event, http://www.rowletttexasteaparty.com/p/patriot-news-updates.html

Kathie Glass has confirmed her attendance and Bill White has told Mayor John Harper that he WILL be here too, I just haven’t heard from him personally yet. I was told to expect a call from White early this week.

I hope you can arrange for Gov. Perry to attend, I think it would be a wise move on his part.

All nice and neat, very professional and above board… Right? Well, maybe…
