Texas primary could help define GOP of future

Texas primary could help define GOP of future

AUSTIN – As the GOP struggles nationally to redefine itself, the debate over what it means to be a Republican is playing out in Texas, too, through Kay Bailey Hutchison’s challenge to Gov. Rick Perry.

Hutchison says the “core principles” that will help the party grow are not social, but economic: smaller government, lower taxes and free enterprise.

Perry’s appeal is to a GOP base that sees social issues such as abortion as a litmus test of party purity.

The debate is at the heart of the Republican Party’s efforts nationally to rebound from election losses and attract new voters.

Texas primary could help define GOP of future

I am hoping that Kay Bailey Hutchison does give up her Senate seat to come home to Texas to run for Governor. I look forward to seeing her enter a nice quiet period of her life called RETIREMENT! Rick Perry has had a few issues that Texans took him to task over, and when Texans voiced their opinions, Gov. Perry listened to his constituents. That can’t be said for Hutchison.

Hutchison voted FOR the Bush bailout bill, against ALL wishes of the people of Texas, Congress OKs historic bailout bill. Hutchison has fought long and hard to stop a border fence from being built on the U.S. side of the Mexican border, Hutchison on defensive over border fence and Hutchison was an ardent supporter of the Immigrant Dream Act, another *back door* attempt at amnesty for ILLEGALS, Immigrant ‘Dream’ Act Fails Key Senate Vote.

Hutchison IS a Washington insider, Texans are not going to take being talked down to by a Washington insider. If Hutchison were to somehow beat Perry in a primary, I would support Kinky Friedman before I’d support KBH! Kinky Friedman may run again for Texas governor.

Hutchison supports embryonic stem cell research and abortion rights, though she backs restrictions on abortion such as a ban on federal funding for organizations that perform abortion and a ban on late-term procedures.

Those are NOT issues that the religious right and Conservatives as a whole are going to support. I am not a big bible thumper, not in any way, but if a candidate is a supporter of abortion, or abortion rights, then that candidate is, in MY opinion, a supporter of nothing less than MURDER!

Both Hutchison and Perry are conservatives and both will be appealing to a primary electorate that, while differing on issues, will reflect a strong conservative bent.

So says the quite liberal Dallas Morning News. Anyone that is a supporter of embryonic stem cell research, abortion rights, amnesty for ILLEGALS and any kind of socialist bailout is NOT a Conservative, and I challenge the Dallas Morning News to show me how they came to that conclusion regarding Kay Bailey Hutchison!

The political pundits are going to offer their spin, I don’t use spin, I use facts. Rick Perry is a good guy, he tries harder than any Governor of Texas that I have kept up with. Perry is a supporter of the TEA Party protests and Texas Sovereignty, states rights for the state of Texas.

Have you heard Kay Bailey Hutchison mention either topic?

Democrats hold cautious hope of capturing Hutchison’s Senate seat

Democrats hold cautious hope of capturing Hutchison’s Senate seat

WASHINGTON – The Democrats’ top Senate campaign strategist said his party has an eye on Kay Bailey Hutchison’s seat – but not too close an eye.

“No place is a bridge too far for Democrats,” said New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, briefing reporters this afternoon on the 2010 electoral playing field.

The contests bode well for his party, Menendez said. He ticked off five states where GOP senators have announced they won’t seek another term, creating especially good opportunities for Democrats: Florida, Ohio, Kansas, Missouri and New Hampshire.

Menendez didn’t put Texas on the list, even though Hutchison is giving up her Senate seat to run for governor and says she may leave by the end of this year.

“I didn’t mention Texas because until we have an opening, we don’t have an opening,” Menendez said. “But I take Kay Bailey Hutchison at her word, which is that she intends to run for governor and that she intends to resign her seat. If that happens we will have a great candidate in Texas.”

I just hope that ALL Republicans remember, Kay Bailey Hutchison voted FOR the 1st bailout and she was a HUGE supporter of the Immigrant Dream Act and is not a strong supporter of border security.

Rick Perry may not be perfect but Kay Bailey Hutchison is far from perfect as well.

The Democrats DO have a golden opportunity here, but yesterday the story was that Kinky Friedman may run for Governor again, as a Democrat. If the Dems hope to have ANY chance they are going to have to get SERIOUS, place Texas and the wishes OF Texans 1st, support Conservative issues and not run some moonbat comic or wannabe pundit.

Voters today are more well informed than at any time in history, and even given that fact, strange things DO happen, look at the Oval Office. This Senate seat is the Republicans to lose. They lost the White House by allowing a non-Conservative RINO to be POTUS for 8 years. The RNC gave away the White House in 2008 by nominating and running an angry old RINO, a guy that is a hell of a lot closer to being a Dem than he EVER was to being a Republican or a Conservative.

The Republicans can either get their act together or this nation will continue to suffer at the hands of the most outrageous Dem/Libbers that have surfaced to date.

Kinky Friedman may run again for Texas governor

Kinky Friedman may run again for Texas governor

AUSTIN, Texas – Humorist and author Kinky Friedman is toying with another run for Texas governor, but if he does enter the race, he says he’s serious this time.

“I’m toning down the one-liners a bit. If I run, it’s going to be a serious run,” Friedman told The Associated Press on Tuesday, peppering the interview with one-liners.

Friedman said he learned some hard lessons from his fourth-place defeat in 2006 to Republican Rick Perry in a race with three political veterans.

He said he found out he couldn’t win as an independent and that he shouldn’t crack so many jokes. He’d rather run now with the help of a major party – the Democrats.

Kinky Friedman may run again for Texas governor

I know a lot of folks are going to just laugh, Kinky WHO? I know a lot more that are going to actually give Kinky Friedman a serious look this time around. Kinky noted that Al Franken did well in his U.S. Senate run? Well, that might be a hangup for me. If he’s a supporter of that androgynous, no talent moonbat Al Franken, well, that’s taking his Democratic support a little too far.

I don’t have a problem with voting for a Democrat, that’s the luxury of being an Independent. Lets face it, given the current condition of the RNC, to quote Kinky, ‘Why the hell not?’. If a Democrat can better represent the state of Texas than a Republican, great, but there is NO WAY that Texas will support a Libber IDIOT or comedic buffoon! Texas WILL support a Democrat, if it’s one like the Democrats were back in the 60’s, back in the day before the Dems lost their solid support in the South by moving as far to the left, and as far away from Conservatism as possible.

During the 2006 campaign, Friedman said he would increase the number of National Guardsmen on the border from 1,500 to 10,000, fine companies for hiring illegal immigrants and require immigrants seeking jobs to apply for taxpayer identification cards and pass a background check.

Friedman knows the ‘hot button’ issues for Texans and even though it’s not in the news lately, even though most of the nation has apparently lost interest in the illegal immigration issue, folks in the border states haven’t. We are still being over-run by ILLEGALS here in Texas, and now it seems like no one cares.

I am NOT at all hung up on ‘party labels’, but Friedman will have to prove himself this time around. IF the RNC can rebuild, if Rick Perry can garner the nod from the Texas Republicans, if Kay Bailey Hutchison can keep her act together and take some sort of serious stance on border issues, Kinky will have his work seriously cut out for him. If ANY of them come out with a HARD stance for border security, that will be a giant issue for Texans.

Friedman needs to cut the ties with people like Willie Nelson and Jesse Ventura. Take the ‘circus‘ attitude out of the equation. Make this a SERIOUS race, make it about serious issues and address it professionally. You’re not auditioning for a role in some stage comedy, if you keep that in mind then you might have a chance. If you don’t, you become another footnote in Texas history, one that reads ‘also ran’.
